Hi all, The following post was put up on Saturday however many of you were unable to read the attached post written by Lt. Newman because of the way I posted it .... (Ops - still learning to drive this thing!...) ...here is the post I put up along with the post many of you could not read ... Sorry for the error!; NPD Facebook Post 12.27.14; The attached post was written by Lt. Brian Newman after he attended the funeral of NYPD officer Rafael Ramos with other Naugatuck officers (Detective) Jack DeOlivera, (Detective) Mike Wawrzyniak, Carl Schaaf, Ryan Burns, Alexia Castro, Tom McGarvey and Paul Bertola. These officers represented the Naugatuck Police Department ...on their own time... and in addition they also experienced a very unique and special atmosphere in honoring officer Ramos... Lt Newmans post says it all... Lt. Bryan Newman - FB Post 12.27.14; Today, I bore witness to several events I will never forget. First, I saw 20,000+ law enforcement officers stand together and remember the life of Detective Ramos. This officer was senselessly assinated, not for the color of his skin or his religous belief; but simply because he was a police officer. He was a son, husband, and a father who meant the world to both the community he served and his family. Second, I saw this same collection of police officers stand together in making a statement to the political power who literally takes them and their job for granted. I saw the looks on the faces of the NYPD, and I understand the pain and frustration they are enduring. Collectively, we must heal as a society and learn to trust again. The police are here not to control society but to educate and enforce it. We must understand the balance. Last, I was able to share these moments with the brothers and sister who I work with. For some, it was their first time attending a funeral for a police officer. Unfortunately, it will not be the last time they attend one. I am honored that we were able to represent our department but more so that we were able to represent the community which we honorably serve. RIP Detective Ramos God Bless America and those who put dedication and honor before all else. #NYPD #ThinBlueLine
