Hi all, heartbreak post coming up, so Im going to make it prosaic. If you like, skip to the bullet points below and ignore the story; Im selling my beloved 1988 900 T16 conv. Send me an offer, its in Surrey (near Reigate/Redhill) and is MOTd and does drive, and has been a daily until now. Id like £1k min as shes full of new parts, but let me know what you think youd give. :( THE BLURB: My 1988 900 T16 Convertible has finally gone beyond what I can offer her after over 13 years over careful ownership and extensive, expensive pampering. Its now finally too expensive to fix at a garage. :( THE BAD: • Head gasket needs replacing, this was the last straw, although still drives OK. • Bodywork rust on the arches re-appeared despite full re-spray 4yrs ago • Boot leaks a little (common fault) • Temperamental starter motor, fine 90% of the time but apparently needs replacing (according to RAC and my garage!) • Coolant leak from one short hose split (temp fixed with sealant tape) • Window raking off-line leaving slight gap on driver side window and wind noise at motorway speed • Passenger side front heated seat doesn’t heat (driver seat fine). • Battery no longer holds charge correctly • Driver seat leather wear on entry side (all other seats in good contidion) • Rear window slightly unbounded from fabric roof on top side (probably an easy fix) but doesn’t leak THE GOOD: • It still starts first time and still drives • MOT to May 21, 2015 • 134k miles • All electrics fully working including cruise control, electric mirrors, heated driver seat, electric hood controls, all electric windows, de-mister, heaters/vents, electric aerial and remote central locking • Kenwood stereo system (tape plus CD multichanger) and new Infinity Reference front speakers in original grills • Working alarm and immobilizer system • Original Saab tonneau covers, with vinyl cover (rare in themselves!) • Roof in full working order, good condition, and no tears or leaks • New Bosh air mass meter • New full exhaust system • Four good Hankook tyres • New rear bearings • Gearbox and clutch sound • New alternator and distro • Extensive wiring and solder points replaced • Full body respray four years ago • Full service history from new • Full hood replacement less than 10yrs • New Saab black arch trims (not yet fitted) • New front bumper skin fitted • Original alloy wheels (stained but good condition) • Original Saab spare tyre in boot • Original toolkit and owners manual with leather folder She had full dealer service history from new ever since we got her in Sept 2000, and only Saab specialist repair since from Malbrad Saab in Huddersfield, Valley Saab in Surrey and more recently Chris McGuinness (classic Saab specialist) in Tolworth who just signed her off. Ive spent between £1k and £4k per year on this car, every single year, only ever with Saab specialist garages. When it came to us it had full dealer service history from new, and I still have all 26 years of regular Saab service and repair records to prove it. I wish I was looked after as well as this damn car! Whenever maintained, every part has been replaced with new and genuine parts even when I’ve had to wait to source the rarer ones, and always fitted by a mechanic who has Saab (and nothing else) written proudly on his business card. Ive spent at least £7k over the last seven years on this car, and you have to draw a line somewhere :( Today is a sad day.
