Hi all, the update on the sponsored walk for Saturday 19th April - TopicsExpress

Hi all, the update on the sponsored walk for Saturday 19th April is now finalised. It is not very spectacular or exciting but after lengthy communications with the local councils they have decided that from the original route along the Itchen Navigation, at least 7 miles will still be closed on the date and of the second chosen cross country route they advise that half would only be passable wearing wellies (wearing wellies for around 13 miles would not be a good idea) So it is back to route 3. We will meet at Hamble station at around 11-30am, the train leaves Portsmouth at 10-38 and is £16-20 for a group 4 ticket (£4.05 each), leaves Fareham at 11-03, group 4 is £8-80 (£2-20 each). From the Southampton area Tony Gailor will be organising transport as there is track work around the station. If you require this please let him know ASAP. The trains will be running from Bitterne at 10-52 at £6-60 for a group 4 (£1-65 each) and Woolston at 10-55 at £5-40 for a group 4 (£1-35 each). A No 6 bus leaves St Vincent’s walk at 09-45 (not sure of price). This is now a very sedate route which is pushchair/wheelchair and dog friendly with watering holes along the way. (No excuses of injuries, lack of refuelling stops, having short legs or being overweight will be allowed) The route will go through Victoria Country Park to Netley and then follow the water around to the Itchen Bridge (the good news for all of you needing refreshment is, there is a pub at the beginning of Netley (The Prince Consort), and another in the middle of Woolston (The Vic). We will then go over the Itchen Bridge (with its stunning views of Fawley refinery) turn right at the far end and then, and here is where I apologies to all of you Skates, stroll along and by St Marys Stadium (sorry), maybe grab a beer at The Joshua Tree and The Prince of Wales before reaching the Old Farmhouse and completion. The length of the walk is around 10miles and not too difficult. Like I said, I hope it is not too much of a disappointment to you and hope that many get involved but it is a matter of needs must and at the end of the day we are doing it for the kids. So come on, push those sponsor forms and get yourselves, family and friends involved. CHEERS ALL J.P.
