Hi all, this is last News Letter I am writing this side of Christmas. Lesley Peart: I have to start by saying Lesley we are all going to miss you and it was my pleasure to share the times we had together. Paul, I know all the Ulysses A Team past and present and their partners send their condolences and are here to support you and the girls at this very sad time. We are all just a phone call away so please do not hesitate to phone. Paul was telling me yesterday that he did not want flowers, he wanted the money donated to Westpac Rescue Helicopter as he could not thank them enough on the day of the accident. My wife suggested that our first demonstration at the Auckland Rescue Helicopter should be dedicated to Lesley and I agreed so as your Captain our first demonstration of the season will be the “Lesley Peart Demonstration” so any promoting of the Demonstration from now to then will be in Lesley’s name. To all the current members and past members of the Ulysses A Drill Team the funeral is on Monday 15th Dec at 2:00pm at Puhinui Rd Cemetery Papatoetoe. There will be Motorcycle escort from 35 Wood St Papakura, those wishing to attend assemble from 12:30 as we will getting away approximately 12:50. Hope to see as many motorcyclist there as possible. Practice: Yes I probably cancelled practice prematurely only I listened to a weather forecast man and he got it wrong again. It really does not matter as it was our last practice before breaking up for Christmas. We will start back earnestly in January. Instead of sitting at home doing nothing you could watch the youtube again. I have now watched it five times and make the following comments. youtu.be/9wPP6jA5pAk 1/ Passing the Flag: If someone misses it then carry on like you did in practice. 2/ Figure of eights were okay and will only get better with practice. 3/ Weave, almost perfect. If anything getting into it we should close up the spacing. 4/ Drop out, almost perfect, will only get better with practice. 5/ Race around slow rider. It is improving so I will say no more. 6/ Reverse Swing. What everybody liked last season was how we came together as pairs. Guy’s we must complete two U turns before going into single file. After the second one I believe if we all turn right then go into single file then cross through centre and split into two groups for the next move. 7/ Inner and outer circles. All good when we got into it. We have to work a better way into these moves. 8/ Three abreast. Very messy getting into it but once underway coming right. We must get you all into it better. 9/ Small figure of eights. What can I say, very well done and I was enjoying myself. (Just about at the old fellows limit.) 10/ Drop across, well you have all seen it, not great but a new move for some that just needs practice. Guy’s you must watch the other riders and control your speed. 11/ Stop in square. Guy’s this definitely needs practice, half of you did not even stop let alone pull up in a square. We might not always get it right the first go but we should get it right the second time round otherwise I will have to drop it. I did not put in the routine in unless I felt we could pull it off. We cannot let the Americans do it better than us and they often have two goes before you see no feet down. 12/ Slalom, It was okay although too much gap between the bikes getting into it. Guy’s you have got a throttle, use it. Remember the spacing between bikes should be around 1.2m. I accept anywhere between a metre and one and half metres. We are riding across car parks and they are 2.5m wide so yes I was not perfect either. 13/ Flying the flag to grand finish. I ride single file with the flag, everybody else rides in pairs behind and as above 1.2m behind. Not a small gap for the first two bikes then a larger gap and a larger still further back. Rob will have his flag on his bike before the Slalom so will be ready to pair up with Ian. The previous week we had Ole, Peter, and Les on the side line. Guys next year you are my eyes. Les you are ex-military I believe so pretend we are on parade ground and get us into line. Apologies : Les I must apologies for not thanking you in the last newsletter for providing the tea, coffee, coke etc. Very well done. We will keep you on or are you just after a promotion. Calendar: Practice every Wednesday night starting 7th Jan, assemble 6:30pm for 6:45 start at Manukau Supa Centre c/nr Cavendish Dr & Lambie Dr Manukau weather permitting. Demonstration dates confirmed. Lesley Peart Demonstration at the finish of the Auckland Rescue Helicopter ride 15th Feb. Cambridge Toy run 1st March. Tauranga charity ride 22nd March. Tauranga Ulysses AGM 10th April. New Year: In the New year we will have to think about booking accommodation for the AGM in Tauranga. It would be great if we could stay together as a team. To all the Team and partners have a safe fun filled Christmas and get out and enjoy a ride or two. Remember although I want to take a back seat next year I would like to see the team continue on for many years to come. All it needs is someone to drive it, they don’t even have to ride in it, in fact could be better if they were on the side line. Finally give a thought for Paul every now and then and give him a call. Paul our thoughts and prayers are for you and your family. My door is always open. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from Trevor & di.
