Hi everybody. The Vernal Equinox will occur at 12:57 PM EDT tomorrow. This is when the direct rays of the sun will cross the equator. We have already crossed the 12 hour daylight/darkness point though...that was Monday. The reason for this is the bending of the suns rays as they refract through the atmosphere around sunrise and sunset. This creates the illusion of the sun appearing above the horizon for a few minutes just before sunrise and just after sunset. These are the observed times so they are what appears in our almanacs.
