Hi everyone - Day 19. What a difference a day can make! I went to bed last night feeling as if someone had just punched me in the stomach. This morning I woke up recharged and ready to fight for our son. Everyones supportive coments helped to reinforce how I felt. We got to the hospital and saw the first Dr. That had been in charge when we arrived. He looked at us with a big smile, thrilled to share with us that Kristopher had responded to a command earlier. This dr. Has always been honest with us and never sugar coated any of the injuries or the possible outcomes that we could be faced with. He is also the one who made a special visit into kristophers room the day after we almost lost him just to give me a hug and to make sure I was ok. He saw that there was something troubling us today and took the time to listen about how the dr had spoken to us yesterday. He was visibly upset and agreed with everything we said. When we were done we went to see Kristopher and he looked great! We started talking to him and there it was he opened his eye wide and blinked. Several times! He lifted his right arm for us something he hadnt done yet. Into the evening when people entered the room and talked to him he opened his eye as if to acknowledge them and even tried to follow their movement. He was even able to open his left eye a little. He started to move his mouth. Wed like to think we saw that famous smirk, but that is a little far fetched. A second Dr came in to see us (the other one I like) to tell us about the peg that was put in for the feeding tube and also to share his enthusiasm about kristophers response to the command today. I had several questions about kristophers condition and when the process starts for the search for a rehab. Again this doctor took his time, explained everything to us and never made us feel like we were interupting him or that our son was just part of a textbook. All in all it was a GREAT day!! We know there will be more set backs, but were ok because we believe in our son and the power of prayer.
