Hi everyone - Its great to see this effort to from a neighborhood association alliance taking off and I appreciate being part of the group. Seeing Near Southside in the Facebook group name raised a question for me, and your thoughts on this are appreciated. Will using the Near Southside as a locational reference for the neighborhood alliance cause confusion? I ask this because the Near Southside name by itself is used for a more limited area. The district marked by those street sign toppers is roughly bounded by Magnolia to the south, I-30 to the north, I-35 to the east, FW&W railroad to the west, plus Park Place Village around 8th Ave. and Park Place is also included. FWSI uses Near Southside as the name for the district in all of our work in order to give it a unifying identity, in lieu of the confusing assortment of names often used (Medical District, Hospital District, Historic Southside, etc.). We also created and manage the Near Southside, Fort Worth Facebook page through which we promote businesses and events in the district. All of that said, we know that those specific Near Southside boundaries are not well known and really may not matter a whole lot when it comes to community perceptions and initiatives such as this alliance. We feel its a good thing that Fairmount, Ryan Place, Mistletoe, Berkeley and maybe others may self-identify as Near Southside neighborhoods as a way to have a common identity reflective of their common interests, instead of the perhaps too broad Southside Alliance, for example. But for the official name of the alliance, does it cause confusion if Near Southside is used, even though those participating neighborhoods, technically speaking, fall outside of the Near Southsides formal boundaries?
