Hi everyone,- heres the next set of photos showing me building the 1:20 scale Big Rig;- ( 14 /15/16 ) Using my own templates to cut & shape the doors, sleeper sides, & engine bonnet. ( 17 ) Cab & sleeper partly assembled. ( 18 ) Bunk fitted & interior sealed. ( 19 ) Bonnet glued into correct location. ( 20 ) Cab roof cut, shaped & fitted. ( 21 ) The real patience bit,- those upper sleeper windows on kenny sleepers !! ( 22 ) Cutting the little buggers on my scroll saw. ( 23 ) Gluing the upper windows to the correct angle,- even though I also glue them to a shaped piece of thin ply on the bottom, I still only have about a 50% success rate !!! ( 24 ) Once in place though,- they look tops !!! ( 25 ) Sleeper roof cut to its basic shape & fitted into place. ( 26 ) hand sanding with 80 grit paper to obtain the correct body shape. ( 27 & 28 ), More hand sanding using 100 120, then, 150 grit . have tried out various types of power sanding machines, but still prefer hand-sanding, as power sanders tend to remove too much material too fast, and when making Wooden Models,- removing too much material too fast is not a good idea,- believe me - basic sanding,-yes,- but not when it comes to realistic shaping. hand & eye co-ordination wins out every time. more photos soon. happy woodworking, Roger.
