Hi everyone- Bit of a crisis going on. We live in an enclosed suburb that is patrolled all the time and the entrance is controlled at the boom by PHS which discourages entry by loiterers. The Security Committee has installed booms and pedestrian access with cameras, a guard house, and fencing in the open areas at great cost based on the support of the residents. We maintain our assets on a small budget based on monthly payments made to the committee. Our security initiative has reduced crime (high-jacking and robberies) remarkably (by at least 90%) in our suburb and you are benefiting from this and your families are able to walk the streets in a fairly secure environment. From time to time we are reminded by the criminal elements that they will take advantage if we are not vigilant. The enclosure has the added benefit of increased property values in the area. We are required by the Council to reapply for the enclosure every two years which requires a road impact study and other administrative costs. We recently obtained a majority mandate from you, the residents of Morehill Glen, to retain the enclosure. If we do not comply, the entire infrastructure will be removed by the Council - the cost born by the residents – and unrestricted access through our suburb and increased crime will become the norm. The committee relies on the residents’ financial support and we currently do not have the funds to carry out this task in accordance with your mandate. A special meeting will be held at the Benoni Country Club on the 29th January 2015 at 19:00 to discuss the continued funding of the enclosure and the patrolling of the streets by guards. We are making a plea for each and every resident to contribute R300 (special levy) by the 7th February 2015 to comply with the Ekurhuleni deadlines.
