Hi everyone- we are home and she is ok. She walked over to get a drink of water earlier tonight and I heard a thump- which I thought was the kittens wrestling then I heard Emily Rose whine so I rushed over to her and she was having a problem standing up, like her legs were giving out. So, I picked her up quickly and held her, but she was stiffening and trying to bend backwards which made it very difficult to hold her. After a few minutes I tried to set her down and she seemed wobbly, so I didnt let go of her. Her eyes were going back and forth so quickly I could barely keep track of them. She was making strange sounds, so I talked to her non-stop so she would know I was with her and held her a little tight. After about 15 minutes with her getting worse, I left for the Emergency Pet. I have no idea how I remembered how to get there because I havent been there in over 10 years! I held her tight the whole way there and spoke to her the whole way. The vet wanted to give her a shot, which I am hesitant about as she had a bad reaction to her routine shots 3 years ago, and I have since discontinued all shots. I was afraid and asked the vet to give me a minute. I told my God that I needed an answer right away on what I was to do for my girl. By the time the vet came back in the room the extreme rapid movement of her eyes was slowing and she was relaxing in my arms. I had my answer- she did not need a shot. Even though she had a bath less than 24 hrs ago, she was giving off this awful smell that I have no idea about. The vet said it seems like it is vestibular disease, which I have heard of, but know very little about, but she assured me it was common in old dogs. I left with Meclizine to give her for 10 days and instructed to follow up with my vet later in the week. I know there is 2 kinds of vestibular disease- central and peripheral, but she did not indicate which she thought it was and I didnt think to ask with my less than usual UNclarity of mind. So, if anyone has info on this-- I certainly would like to hear from you. That was very scary as Emily Rose has been fortunate enough to have a relatively healthy life until recently, I didnt panic, but my voice was shaky and I knew I had to stop that so I wouldnt scare her. She is resting at my side. When I got home, I set her down to see if she could stand up and ALL the katz came and circled her-- it was amazing to see. Kalhi forgot all about hissing at the kittens, they all just stood around her. The circle of love that I always knew was there.
