Hi everyone. A good friend (non-UP graduate) shared this with me through PM. Im sharing it here hoping that something can be done about this and that this can be addressed. Hindi pa ako makaisip ngayon kung papano. I find it very disturbing: Joel Cochico 2 hrs · Camp Murphy · My wife and I attended a PTA meeting in UP this morning. I left before it started since my wife was there. I whiled away the time talking with some staff and students at the canteen. They shared stories that not only made me angry but deeply disturbed. One cook told me how there are some scholars who beg for leftovers. These students are dirt poor and relied on allowances from the PDAF of their congressmen, yes the PDAF that many critics say are being pocketed by our lawmakers. Cooks and waiters would secretly cook eggs for these starving scholars so theyll have something to keep them going for the rest of the day. Be thankful these are not your kids. Pork is not entirely evil just because some rotten legislators. Is this the kind of society we envisioned? A society who acts without thinking of the consequences just so they get what they want? Many of these critics live in comfort. They never thought how even a small amount can make a huge difference. How can these starving scholars pursue their dreams on empty stomachs. Shame on you for taking away from these kids. I hope youre happy now that you have succeeded in your advocacy (if want to call it that). You did not hurt our legislators. You managed to make the lives of these students a living hell.
