Hi everyone! After Judy led us to the hut classroom near the Howard Mallet Youth Club along Young Street and introduced us to Margaret Earle, she then left us. There were about four long tables in the classroom and she asked us to sit down. Jill Houchin and I sat together and then Margaret explained briefly what the course was all about She handed us out some text books about accounting which would set us questions and gave us some A3 sheets of paper which contained various lines and columns. These were ledger sheets and these were the sort of things we would find in a hard backed A4 book. We were to use these ledger sheets to write down income in one column and expenditure in another and it became a maths lesson because we had to add up all the income and then the expenditure and then subtract the expenditure from the income in order to work out the balance. That was basically what we did every Monday until the end of our first year although the problems got harder and harder. That was later, however and at the end of our first lesson it was lunchtime and we had a lesson in Clinical Procedures with Sue Webster to contemplate as we made our way to the refectory. More detail on what was covered in our accounts lessons is set out in the following Wikipedia link: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bookkeeping
