Hi everyone First, thanks to everyone who turned up to - TopicsExpress

Hi everyone First, thanks to everyone who turned up to Karl-Liebknecht Haus last night to make it such a great election night party. Although we organised it at very short notice, Judith reckons that it was the second largest party KL Haus has seen. For those of you who weren’t there (or those who want to relive the evening) there is already a video of the event online: youtube/watch?v=Vw_ALqdT7k0. The next normal meeting of or group is, as ever, on the second Monday of the month: 9 February, where a speaker from Wahlrecht für alle will be talking about rent increases and our voting rights facebook/events/1554927794749500. This may sound a little dry, but it will actually be the kick-off meeting for a new campaign, which should last 18 months. In the middle of February there will be a new “Volksbegehren” aiming at changing the law in Berlin to control rent rises and put more homes under collective ownership. It will be like 100% Tempelhofer Feld last year, but on a much bigger scale. Once more, although people without a German passport pay the same rents, we aren’t allowed to vote in the Volksbegehren. Our group is already having talks with Wahlrecht für alle to launch a campaign scandalising this. The meeting will be at 7pm in Karl Liebknecht Haus. NOTICE: because recent meetings have been getting bigger, from now on we will be meeting in the KIZ opposite the main entrance. On top of this, there are all sorts of other events which all seem to have come at once. On Saturday night, we are organising a mass leaflet distribution / pub crawl (Niels will be sending a mail about this soon) and on Saturday day time before that, some of us will be at the Podemos demo at Brandenburger Tor. Then on 5 February we will be having the meeting to analyse the Greek elections with Andrej Hunko MdB, Nicos Tzanakis from SYRIZA Berlin and Lefteris Arabatzis from ANTARSYA Berlin facebook/events/1533111276942702. 7pm in the Rosa Luxemburg Saal, where we had the election party. Unless anyone has a different suggestion, May has offered to chair this meeting. Finally, on 8 February we are showing the film Still The Enemy Within for the first time ever in Germany facebook/events/403951516434472. The film is a documentary about the British miners’ strike and was released around the same time as Pride, getting superb reviews. If you saw Pride but want to know more about the politics of the strike (including interviews with people who participated) this is the film for you. We’ll be showing the film at 4pm in the Rosa Luxemburg Saal, which is becoming out second home. After the film is over, there will be a discussion with Sinead Kirwan, the film producer and Ian Perry who helped organise trade union solidarity during the strike. Entrance is free, but we will be collecting money to help finance a German language version of the film. So, lots to get stuck into. If you have any questions, please get in touch. Phil
