Hi everyone, I have a something that has been bothering me quite a bit for quite a while now, so heres my question. My 12 yo Appaloosa gelding has always been the go to horse in the field to instigate play, he is very submissive and was the lowest in the herd for a very long time. Now suddenly one day he started chasing all the new horses in the field, first an old sweet retired boy and then a young Thoroughbred of track (which he also played with all the time). He actually chases them around the field and out of the herd. I have never seen him do this? It was literally out of the blue. Under saddle he is absolutely lovely, forward going, responsive to subtle aids. Well in general he is great for people, groundwork, stable manners etc. I know it has something to do with herd behaviour and have been researching it countless times but to no avail. He was taken out of the field and put in a paddock with other dominant horses. All I want to know is why? Its strange for me cause he hasnt been up to that sort of mischief.. I know it isnt riding centered but this has been bugging me since it started. Thank you :)
