Hi everyone, I would like to share my story. I know I have shared it before, but what ive been seeing that some people are struggling. Dont worry about what people think, just lift up your head and pray that everything will be ok. Things may be tough in life, but living with DANDY-WALKER plus hydrocephalus or some other disorder just shows that you are strong and god gave you this disorder because he knows that you will overcome it. And he sees how strong you are. Never give up!! My life of living with dandy-walker and hydrocephalus began when I was two. It all started because i was having secures, they got out of hand, so my parents called; 9-11. They came and rushed me to the hospital, the doctors did all kinds of test on me, One of the doctors came in, and expressed to my parents the problem I am having, no one knew anything about it. However, they then called a neurosurgeon to respond to the hospital and they hurry up and operate on my head and insert the shunt. The funniest thing is when I woke up and saw my family, I immediately shot up and started being strong and pulling off the cords. My parents are my biggest motivators/inspirations and the ones who keep me on my feet, but so is my families. Moreover, before I was able to start school, I was doing early-intervention because my parents didnt want me to fall behind in school. Elementary was a breeze, I did speech and occupational therapy but was done with those when middle school came around. Middle school was all about special education classes, which I didnt mind. I was in band, and also in the middle of 7th grade i moved up into general ed Science. High school came and my freshman year we decided to keep me in special ed, but as soon as my sophomore year came I was able to move into all general ed courses and that is how the rest of my high school life was. Yes, i still had a few accommodations and a case manager; which i recommend. I graduated high school this year class of 2014, with honors. I am now in college, and having to take prereqs but even if it takes me longer to get through college ill be a wonderful nurse. Nursing has been my main priority, which im already a certified nursing assistant. I have a stay strong tattoo; so that it will remind me but also just got one recently and it is two ribbons linked together to make a heart. The two ribbons are dandy-walker which is gray and scoliosis which is green. I always tell myself, NEVER GIVE UP, YOURE BEAUTIFUL AND UNIQUE IN YOUR OWN WAY. If you have any questions, concerns, or need to talk to someone.... im here to answer anything. Im open to it.
