Hi everyone! I would love if you would take a few minutes to read - TopicsExpress

Hi everyone! I would love if you would take a few minutes to read the following. It won’t take long, I promise – but it would mean a lot to me if you did. As you all probably know and are likely sick of hearing by now, I’m participating in the Walk+Run Against Hunger on April 12th with Team BRYN and DANE’s. Our team is growing and we’ve got the most passionate and excited people with us – it’s fantastic and I’m so excited to see that people I work with are excited about making a difference. However, while the Walk+Run is fun and shows support for The Greater Philadelphia Coalition Against Hunger and everything they do, fundraising is what really gets things done. Bear with me for a second, I’ll explain where this is going in a couple of paragraphs. We have a lofty fundraising goal, and we’re raised a total of $30. With a goal of $1000, we’ve got a very, very long way to go! However, this $30 is already going to help the Coalition support food pantries and soup kitchens in Philadelphia, help those in need of SNAP Assistance apply for benefits when they don’t know where to start, and fight to change Policy on the front lines to get right in there and change the way the 46 million Americans (1 in 7 Greater Philadelphians) who rely on food stamps are able to eat and feed their families. So with that said, the Greater Philadelphia Coalition Against Hunger’s (PCAG) suggested donation is $10 (you can donate less, if you like). But think about $10 for a second. For us, it’s a couple of beers. It’s a few days of Starbucks. It’s lunch. For someone on SNAP benefits, it’s TWO DAYS of food. There’s something the PCAG calls the Greater Philadelphia Food Stamp Challenge. Other organizations, including Feeding America (you know, they have those commercials with Jeff Bridges) have similar challenges by different names, but the concept is the same: Live for ONE WEEK on a food stamp budget. That’s $1.50 per meal, no more. I’ve been waiting to participate until PCAG’s food stamp challenge comes up in late April, but I’ve decided to take the challenge early, beginning on April 1st, in hopes that my efforts will increase awareness of how valuable just $10 can be before we participate in the Walk. I’m going to video document my challenge and share it here on Facebook and my Twitter (@kay_brwn). With every video, I’ll post a link to our fundraising page if anything I’ve said or done has resonated with you and you’d like to contribute. And for the record, I have also donated. I won’t ever ask more of anyone than the minimum I would give myself. I understand this is going to get on people’s nerves – nobody likes suggestions on what to do with their money, but we ALL have at least SOMETHING we’re passionate about, and this is important to me. You won’t hear me asking for money for ANYTHING else. But you all know how much I love food :) and NO ONE should be hungry. Thanks for reading, if you’ve gotten this far. I’ve commented with the link to our fundraising page.
