Hi everyone! Im getting ready to knit my first sweater ever. - TopicsExpress

Hi everyone! Im getting ready to knit my first sweater ever. Its going to be a sweater dress from the Knits for Nerds pattern book. Fun! I knitted a swatch, washed and blocked it. The pattern calls for 15 stitches per 4 in a bulky yarn. Im getting 12 stitches per 4. (The yarn from the pattern wasnt available to me so I substituted with a 50/50 merino/acrylic yarn instead, and its bulkier than what I need apparently.) Problem is, a smaller needle size results in a very stiff fabric that wont be fun to wear. Getting new yarn isnt an option as I already bought all the skeins for this very long sweater. Now the math on this is killing me from the inside. I intended on knitting a size L, which casts on 80 stitches for each of the front and back pieces. Obviously I will drown in this if I knit it with my gauge. A size M will cast on 76 stitches per piece. Knowing the gauge and the number of stitches for the pattern, will a size M be a size L with my gauge? For all my lingual skills, math is my major weak point and I dont even know how to do this, so Im hoping someone can confirm if a size M will work out for me. I suspect it will work, but Id like some confirmation from more experienced knitters. Thanks in advance!
