Hi everyone Mark here. Please read this, I know its wordy but when you finish you will know why. In August of last year I was persuaded to join Jackson County Search and Rescue, after careful thought and going to a few training sessions I decided to join and help our community and those in need. In doing that I have been challenged to take the Polar Plunge on February 21st benefiting the Southern Oregon Special Olympics. This is near and dear to my heart, my oldest brother Michael had down syndrome and back in the late sixties the State of Oregon and the US Air Force thought it was better for the family to take him from the home because they new better than my mom and dad did about raising him. They removed him from the home and all parental rights then refused to let us see him or even know where he was. Last time I saw him was in 72 when I was 5 years old and they lost the last court battle to get him back. After mom past away in 2004 my brother and myself set out to find him. To our dismay we discovered he had past away a year earlier which was two years after we started looking. Saddest part is he was in Ashland the whole time. Normally I dont do much charity stuff, with a lot of them only pennies make it back to those that actually need it, with this it all goes to these very special people in need. My son-in-law was a coach for the Special Olympics Basketball team out of Grants Pass, and just watching these folks and kids play and have fun makes me proud yet sad at the same time. If you could please find it in your heart to sponsor my plunge it would mean the world to me. To know that I was able to help send a person to the Special Olympics for doing something as simple as jumping into a freezing pool would be priceless to me. Below is the link to sponsor my plunge.
