Hi everyone Most of you will be aware that all contesting political parties signed the Conduct Pledge (attached) in Midrand yesterday in preparation for the national and provincial elections on 7 May 2014. The IEC has informed us that the dates for special vote applications will be from 7-17 April 2014 at any Municipal Electoral Office between 9 and 5pm. There are different types of special votes 1. Any registered voter who cannot vote at their voting station on Election Day can apply for a special vote. You will only be able to cast a special vote at the voting station where you are registered to vote. 2. Any registered voter who is pregnant, sick or disabled and cannot travel to his or her voting station may apply for a home visit. These will take place on dates determined in the Election Timetable (see below) 3. Election officials and security officials working in an election may apply for a special vote in the voting district in which they are registered to vote. 4. Any eligible voter outside of the Republic of South Africa (RSA) and who is not a registered voter inside the RSA will need to register to vote abroad at an RSA diplomatic mission. REMEMBER: You need to apply for a special vote at your local IEC office. You will find the special voting dates in the 2014 election timetable (see below) · 7 April 2014: Opening date for submission of special votes’ applications at local IEC offices · 17 April 2014 (17h00): Deadline for submission of special votes’ applications at local IEC offices · Mon 5 May 2014 & Tue 6 May 2014: visitation for purposes of casting special votes Local representative organisations of persons with disabilities which wish to register as observers should contact their nearest IEC office and/or national affiliate. Those interested in obtaining copies of the national and provincial ballots can do so by requesting the specific provincial ballots from DisabilityRights Working together we can do more to build a fully inclusive society free from unfair discrimination, inequality, abuse and exploitation!
