Hi everyone Well I am happy to say that over the last few days the water temp has warmed along our coast and so has the kingfish bite. The fish are not biting all day but around Newport Reef area there are some great fish. On the weekend we went along the coast and unfortunately the day was a slow one. We only managed to get one kingfish but those that missed out are able to come back and have another crack at them during the week. Today saw us again hitting a variety of areas and with live squid and cuttlefish we had a crack at a kingfish well over the metre mark and managed another five fish kings between 75-80cm to put a smile on everyones face. If you have been waiting for the kingfish bite to start again, well it is starting now. We have been catching kingfish for the last two weeks on Broken Bay but they are hard to find and tempt. If you want a chance at a kingfish it is important to catch a variety of baits and see what they want on that day. To cover the bases you need cuttlefish, squid, yellowtail or slimies. It has been a lot more successful to downrig and cover ground than to anchor, burly and wait for them to show up.
