Hi everyone, With the wahoo kickr now in stock I will be - TopicsExpress

Hi everyone, With the wahoo kickr now in stock I will be running on demand cycling testing using the kickr. The first test Ill be offering is a FTP (Functional Threshold Power) test. See below for a good explanation from wattbike. We are going to advertise this test for $55 to the general public but for our windtrainer folk well offer it to you for $45. The FTP test will be a valuable tool you can use to determine whether or not you are actually getting fitter on the bike as its done in a controlled enviornment, so youve got nothing else to blame for the end result. To book in for these tests simply get hold of myself through facebook or message me on 0430 483 807. Functional Threshold Power (FTP) is becoming widely used in the cycling world as an increasing number of cyclists are using power to guide and monitor their training and their performance-related capacities. When correctly measured FTP is an intensity that is similar to a blood lactate threshold, which in turn has been found to be highly predictive of performance in a range of endurance events and distances (Faude et al., 2009). Not only can regular assessments of FTP help provide you with an indication of whether you are improving your performance-related abilities, but it also provides a very good functional ‘landmark’ from which to base cycling-specific training zones. There are many ways to establish your FTP, and one of the most practical and accessible methods is to establish an average power from a 20-minute all out effort. FTP is an intensity that represents the ability to sustain the highest power output possible over 45 to 60 minutes, depending upon an individuals’ trained status. As a result 95% of the 20-minute average power is used to determine the FTP. Training zones that work well with a power-based FTP are those created by Andy Coggan (see Allen & Coggan, 2010), especially if power is used for some or all of the training that is carried out. If a heart rate monitor is available for use in the testing, both power and heart rate-based training zones can be provided. from wattbike
