Hi everyone and welcome back to Cecis journey. Im getting ready to - TopicsExpress

Hi everyone and welcome back to Cecis journey. Im getting ready to leave for work soon but i wanted to share some news that put such a big smile on my face last night while i was at work. Thank you Nurse Courtney for sharing with me :-) So as most of you know our sweet girl had major surgery a week after her birthday, in May of this year to perform a bone grafting surgery on her right hip. We had found out during some xraying that Cecis right hip socket was not formed correctly and it was causing her leg to turn in a backwards motion and if we did not do something soon it was going to cause much more of an issue. Since the socket was not formed it would not stay in her hip socket. So her wonderful orthopedic surgeon performed a surgery to remove pelvic bone from her body and reconstruct her hip joint along with the help of some more metal plates and pins. While he was doing this surgery he also performed another muscle and tendon manipulation to try to tame those stiff pulling muscles. Thankfully all went well but because of the complexity of the surgery her dr did not want her weight bearing for a long time to allow the bones to heal and see how her body would do. The last time we attempted to stand Cec was probably back in april of this year. Well that changed yesterday! :-D Ceci had her first weight bearing appt with her awesome physical therapist Janelle and i hear from Ceci and her nurse Courtney that it went great! She still fits in her RGO brace and was able to tolerate standing with the help of her walker and Janelle after 6 months of not being able to. It takes a whole lot of upper strength for her to be able to do this since she has no feeling in her feet and parts of her leg, muscle weakness and paralysis. Then after tolerating standing she went even further and took some steps with Janelle and her walkers assistance. That is amazing and so fantastic! When Courtney text me to let me know this wonderful news i almost broke out in tears of joy ;-D Ceci has wanted to walk again for so long. And when we last talked to her orthopedic surgeon back in April about her continuing to try we were given devastating advice. He wanted us to consider giving up. He didnt believe it was worth having to make another RGO brace because he did not think this one would fit anymore. He said that she should just use her mobile stander and get rid of the brace and walker. This of course left me dazed and heart broken especially with the news of her needing yet another major surgery in may of this year. But it looks like there is still hope for her to continue to do what she is so proud of doing. I just wanted to share this heart touching news with you all :-D I know that it means as much to you as myself. So many of you have seen her struggles with trying to stand and walk over the past 9 years and she still refused to give up! Even if she can only do it for a therapeutic use, during p.t. and weight bearing it still means a lot to her. These pictures are from early this year with her in the RGO brace and working hard to take steps. We didnt get any pics yesterday but i sure will next week at her therapy session. Have to head to work now. Wishing you all a beautiful day! Lots of love and hugs, Alexis and Ceci ~Spina Bifida Fighters and Survivor~
