Hi, fellow Alumni! Mountain Day Weekend this year is October 3-5. - TopicsExpress

Hi, fellow Alumni! Mountain Day Weekend this year is October 3-5. As many of you know, Berry has done nothing for the Academy Alumni this year for Mountain Day except for the breakfast for the classes of ’74 and ’79. Several of us who gather each year and try to get all Alumni (regardless of graduation year) to come back have been less that happy about this slight. Perhaps this year the emphasis is on Berry’s new football team. I would like to say how personally disappointed I am in the Alumni Dept. for their lack of concern about the rest of the Academy and High School as Mountain Day has always been the time of year we have elected to congregate. In my opinion this shows a lack of interest by the Alumni Dept. We as Berry Alumni need to continue to converge on Rome at Mt. Day and meet and have our own “reunion”. Since we started getting together in 2007, I have so enjoyed seeing who is going to show up. I feel that because Berry was so small, that all the students who went there were part of my family and I want to see all of you there. I propose that this year, everyone come and get together, regardless of the absence of plans for us, we have our own homecoming. Everyone is always welcome to visit the Berry campus and especially the new Academy/High School exhibit at Oak Hill. Several of us have talked and come up with numerous opportunities to meet and have fun. On Friday, there will be a get-together at the Hawthorne Hotel courtesy of Teresa Puckett Smith on Friday night from 4-5:30. After this I intend to grab something to eat (maybe at the Brewhouse since they have lots of room). Then I am going with several of my fellow alumni to the Floyd Amusement and Bowling Center at 7 Riverbend Dr. on Friday night. This is on the road that runs off Turner McCall going behind the old Riverbend Mall. They have a snack bar, beer and wine, bowling, pool tables, air hockey, a great juke box and plenty of room to congregate. You can eat out first or just eat there. On Saturday, I intend to “crash” the Alumni Breakfast to see who has shown up and invite them to the weekend’s activities. Then I will be at the picnic to see who attends. In the late afternoon, I will be playing golf at Callier Springs Country Club (owned by our own Lynn Keown Miller). Anyone who wants to play, contact me and bring your clubs! There will be a get-together again at the Hawthorne Hotel before the football game for those of you who will be attending. Afterwards a dinner out somewhere on Broad Street (maybe at Harvest Moon or Schroeder’s) then back to the Club for socializing and to shoot pool. Any and every member of the Academy/High School no matter what year you graduated is invited to join us at any time for any activity. You can text me at 706-271-5861 or email me at [email protected]. Please join me and let us not lose the camaraderie we have built up over the years. And all newbies, WELCOME! Pam Koonce Chapman ‘76
