Hi, firstly I strongly agree with the principle behind Left Unity. The Left is far too fractured in the UK and the Labour party has shifted to the right so it can be difficult to push for reform from within it. However, from Ive found the reception here to be intolerant if Im honest. Im quite left wing myself, as can be gauged from the political compass test I took yesterday. Therefore youd think that Id be the sort of person youd like to recruit. I identify somewhat with the centre left as I believe its important to try and work from within the current system (capitalism) to change things rather than to try and completely overhaul it, although Im obviously in favour of alternatives. From discussions on here this seems to be a major problem. The point is, if your aim is to unite the left, youre not going to achieve it if you alienate the centre-left (i.e.- the people who are centre-left and actually left wing). What chance have you got of recruiting disaffected Labour voters who are stupid enough to vote UKIP if you make people like me seem so unwelcome just because we dared to utter the evil word capitalism :-) politicalcompass.org/printablegraph?ec=-9.25&soc=-7.54
