Hi folks - Ill be speaking at bindercon on Oct 11-12, Second Acts: Creative Writing as a Second Career, and discussing the journey to leaving my lawyer life for my writing life. VONA was a HUGE part of that. Other VONA alum such as faculty Tayari A. Jones and JP Howard will be speaking on panels too. Plus many more awesome WOC. Second Acts: Creative Writing As A Second Career Bridgett M. Davis, Caroline Leavitt, Serena W. Lin, and Jacqueline Jones LaMon Even though mainstream media loves an ingenue, not everyone finds herself a writer as soon as she finishes college or graduate school. Indeed, an early MFA is not the only gateway to a writing career. This panel represents the voices of women who came to the profession of creative writing after flourishing careers in law, journalism, fashion writing, film, and full-time mothering. These women will discuss the benefits and challenges of finding your voice when you have already found yourself a life. This panel provides support for those women who have taken a different path – stressing both the challenges and benefits of such a path – and advice and support for those who are still on their way.
