Hi folks, Bob here. I went to see the movie “American Sniper” over the weekend. Wow, what a powerful movie about the real life Navy Seal Chris Kyle who holds the record as the “most lethal” sniper in U.S. military history with 160 confirmed “kills” and 250+ unconfirmed. He was a true American patriot, hero, and was unfortunately killed in February 2013 by a fellow soldier with PTSD at a gun range that he was trying to help. Well anyway, this movie has been nominated for 6 Academy Awards including Best Picture and Best Actor (Bradley Cooper). However, even though the Directing in particular of this movie was excellent, it didnt even get nominated for Best Director. Clint Eastwood was the director, and I cant help but wonder if its just a coincidence that Clint Eastwood is an outspoken Republican. You may remember, Eastwood spoke at the 2012 Republican Convention for Mitt Romney and mocked Barack Obama with an empty chair on stage. Well also, some Hollywood liberal are saying bad things about this movie. Michael Moore tweeted that “snipers are cowards”. Seth Rogen compared it to the Nazi propaganda scenes in the movie “Inglorious Bastards”. Hollywood writer Steve Pond wrote a story for “The Wrap”, asking “Should Clint Eastwood be Celebrating a Killer”. The Headline story at the New Republic states “The Real American Sniper Had No Remorse About the Iraqis He Killed”. Its just amazing to me that some people can hold these views, but they do. Im curious what you folks think of this movie. Did you see it? What about being a sniper? Is there anything morally wrong with being a sniper? Chris Kyle was the most “lethal” sniper in U.S. military history. Is that something to be honored? (I think so). But some do feel there is something morally wrong (or even cowardly) with being a sniper. So, what are your thoughts about the movie, or any of this? thewrap/american-sniper-complaints-grow-in-hollywood-should-clint-eastwood-be-celebrating-a-killer/
