Hi folks, Fr Ken here. Im sorry to announce but this Sundays Market will be the last for the time being. Here is the press release that will go out ASAP. Thank you to everyone who has supported the market over the past 5 or so years. Its been a lot of fun. Ken Farewell to Monthly Markets After four and a half years the Semaphore Community Market will be held for the last time on 1 December 2013. The Market was initiated by St Bede’s Anglican Church and commenced in May 2009. The Reverend Ali Wurm was the inspiration behind the monthly Sunday market which was first coordinated by Helen Bock as part of a commitment of St Bede’s to engage with the local community. This commitment will continue to be expressed through the twice-weekly St Bede’s Drop-in Centre, Bede’s Bazaar on Semaphore Road as well as the commitment of the Parish of St Bede’s to inclusive worship and social events. For the last two and a half years, St Bede’s has worked with Anglicare SA to manage the market with Carmel Barnes working as coordinator. While the market has offered a great opportunity for local trade, the St Bede’s Parish Council has recently decided to refocus its community engagement with a greater emphasis on participation in broader community activities and events in the Semaphore community. The Reverend Ken Bechaz, who was recently appointed as Parish Priest at St Bede’s understands that the closure of the Market will be a disappointment and a hope that this decision will create a space for the people of St Bede’s to find other ways to creatively engage with the community. St Bede’s would like to take this opportunity thank all stall holders who have participated in the market over the last 4 years, and acknowledge the ongoing loyalty and support from the stall holders who have embraced our mission of community engagement. Many have attended since the beginning, and have been committed to the community spirit of this market. We would also like to thank all volunteers for all the hard work, dedication, time and effort they have given to support this community event. Special acknowledgement to our many sponsors over the last 4 years particularly the Port Adelaide Enfield council who has continuously financially and practically supported us from the beginning. We are hopeful we can continue to work together as we look at different ways to engage and promote community spirit in the future. The final Semaphore Community Market will be held on Sunday 1 December 2013 with a special Christmas focus and an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of the Market over the past four and a half years. A final celebration will be held as part of St Bede’s Sunday Eucharist on 15th December at 9.30am. This will be followed by a Celebratory morning tea and formal thankyou to all who have been associated with the Market. The morning tea will commence at 10.45 am. Everyone is welcome. To assist with morning tea catering RSVPs to Fay Warren (0415 364 757), Brenda Beer (0400 053 527) or email stbedessemaphore@bigpond would be appreciated.
