Hi folks, the past few weeks have been busy and eventful, with the public hearing taking pride of place, as far as Forres interest is concerned! The hearing was chaired very professionally by a Forres loon, Mr Douglas Ross, and you can watch it all again if you wish, on the Moray Council webcast service: DAY 1 moray.public-i.tv/core/portal/webcast_interactive/103858 DAY2 moray.public-i.tv/core/portal/webcast_interactive/103859 Stewart Noble has lost hours of sleep in setting up his Battle of the Bogton facebook page and it is surging towards 3000 friends. I think the purpose of the page is to stop any commercial development on the green space at Bogton, including a football stadium. This would of course scupper the present RedCo Milne proposal as it depends on moving of the football stadium to that green area. It is amazing how many people seem to have come to a conclusion about what is best for all the Forres people, without even knowing what the proposed offer will be. Meanwhile, we councillors are obliged to plough a much more rational furrow and when any businessman comes forward with proposals, we have to look very carefully at what the pros and cons will be for Forres and Moray. Fear not, I have always believed in looking very closely in the mouth of a gift horse and I would insist on a strip search of any Greek bearing gifts, who might knock on my door. As a councillor I am not allowed to shoot both the horse and the Greek on sight but there are some objectors to the Bogton proposals who would not hesitate to do so! There is no doubt that a whole lot of information will have to come into the public domain soon and it is the aim of your local councillors to arrange some form of public meeting in the town when that information is forthcoming. If you have any suggestions as to the form this meeting should take then please let me know. I would suggest perhaps a BBC question time format, or perhaps a formal debate. I do think that whatever is decided, the public must be free to ask questions of the relevant stakeholders. Whatever form it takes there is no doubt that it will have to be very well chaired, because this subject seems to get some peoples’ emotions really going. I have been asked about how to go about objecting to the detailed planning application and on what grounds you can object. Hopefully the following links will help:- moray.gov.uk/moray_standard/page_41736.html planningaidscotland.org.uk/pdf/material.pdf Do let me hear what you think either through this medium or by email ([email protected]). Please do not be offended if it takes some time for you to get a reply but do not hesitate to send me a reminder if necessary. I hope lots of you are going along to the Grant Park on the 29th June and again on the 6th July. These are the kinds of events that bring visitors to our town and I hope our High Street shops play their part by staying open all day. Cheers.
