Hi guys, A bit of an on-topic but non-review thread: What is the best burger youve ever had? Like, we all review burgers that are currently available, but Im sure we all have some legendary burger memories from the past that we cant review any more for whatever reason. For me, it was about 12 years ago. My Dad and I were driving from Sydney to Bundaberg (about 1,400km) in a single sitting and we ended up getting hungry in the middle of nowhere. We stopped at a town and the only thing open was one of those typical greasy spoon places where you can buy pretty much anything that can be deep fried. Excuse me, where are we? we asked. The proprietor looked at us like we had six heads and through a toothless frown she barked back Goomeri!.... like there was ever any doubt. Anyway, we ordered a beef works burger each and a couple drinks. It cost about $10 total so we werent expecting much. Next thing we know she carries out two dinner plates piled with chips and another two dinner plates with the burgers.... and they really were the size of a dinner plate. These things were your stock standard fish shop burgers but on steroids. They had about 6 different sauces on them and probably a kilo of meat and bacon. By the end of it both my Dad and I were drenched in burger juices and probably 6kg heavier. I dont know what it was but one of the sauces was really sweet, like maple syrup, but it worked. Believe it or not, I went back there twice over the following years even though its about 1,100km away. Then one day it was gone. And I am sad.... because thats a long way to drive only to find out it is no longer there. Im sure my glasses are rose-tinted at this point and part of the appeal was definitely the epic lengths required to get to the place but I still reckon it was as close to a unicorn as Ill ever get. * Pic related: This is Goomeri in all of its one street goodness.
