Hi guys, DAW/Performance question here; I run a 2.6Ghz Core i5 - TopicsExpress

Hi guys, DAW/Performance question here; I run a 2.6Ghz Core i5 Macbook with 8GB of RAM and roughly 75GB of free disk space. I will get Logic eventually but for now Im recording using Garageband. My monitors are run off of Lexicon Omega which connects via USB to the Macbook. Im finding that some of my demos are playing back with scratchy noises or choppiness, particularly the ones with a large number of tracks. Is this a computer processing problem or RAM limitation? Or is this possibly a bandwidth limitation of using USB when sending the audio to the monitors? Or maybe its a limitation with the DAW itself? I will eventually get Logic and probably a dedicated recording workstation (iMac or Mac Mini) but for now I want to know if there is anything I can do to ease this scratchy sound or choppiness. If its happening due to a lack of hardware resources, my assumption is Logic will require MORE resources and I should spec my next machine carefully. Note that the scratchiness is not in the audio itself, I can export to WAV/MP3 and its not there. Nor is this scratchiness and choppiness consistant. Rebooting or closing/reopening garageband does not usually help. Thoughts?
