Hi guys, Im interested in getting a dobe (our first!) as a family pet. Here are my requirements of a family dog - accompanies my mom while shes at home knitting/watching TV, a regular jogging/running companion for me and my fiance - has no problems and will not cause problems with toddlers/senior citizens on a cane - will not have the appetite of a great dane/rottie/other 100+lbs dogs - will recogize me and other family members as family (aka, will not display territorial behavior to my mom or my fiance if Im not around) 1) Am I still looking at the right breed based on my three reqs? 2) How much am I expected to spend for a pet quality dobe? I have no preference for gender, no plans in breeding and showing....purely a house companion and exercise buddy. 3) I dont want the ears cropped....but are there health benefits connected to ear cropping? All Ive read so far....are inconveniences so far. Are the non-aesthetic benefits (if any?) worth the inconvenience? 4) Worried about that Willder-something syndrome (the one where the dobe can bleed to death due to a simple cut); any test/document I have to review? 5) To avoid ticks and other pests (ie: feral cats and rats), I intend to keep him indoors. Is the dobe okay with indoor living? Thanks in advanced :)
