Hi guys! Our BIG WORD for Today is PRIDE. It was only this morning that I learned the cancellation of the NBA-Gilas tune-up games. And reading the news and reviews, I had the impression that there was a mess up in organizing the game. But more than pointing fingers for the blame, the greatest act of courage and humility was shown by no other than the chairman himself Mr. Manny Pangilinan. He exemplified the character of a true leader and a servant. I salute you sir. I wish I could have the chance to invite you and to speak before the students of mine. Surely, they will be inspired by your words. He was indeed a contradiction to what his subordinates have done - prideful defense. What really happened? Given that they have done a diligent preparation, would it appropriate to simply ask an apology for the cancellation? Pride is an excessive and unreasonable love and desire for excellence. It is a most fruitful source of presumption, ambition and vainglory. Presumption is to appear greater than one is and to do things that are beyond his powers. Inordinate ambition is to secure honor and dignity even at the expense of others by unjust and unfair means. Vainglory which is inordinate love and desire for the praise and honor of men. Humility which teaches us to know our failures, misery and nothingness is the great remedy which we must use to cure the ills of pride. To teach us humility the God of heaven and earth so humbled Himself as to assume our human nature with all its miseries, to be born in a stable, to live a life of poverty and suffering, and to die upon a cross between two thieves. Let us imitate God. Let us be inspired by Manny Pangilinan. Let us not be proud.
