Hi guys, here is an update for you in regards to this weekend. Recent weather patterns have not provided for any natural snowfall at lower elevations nor have they allowed for any decent snowmaking. The forecast through the week is indicating to us that temperatures will not allow for snowmaking and there is unlikely to be any natural snowfall. We have deferred the opening of both Whakapapa and Turoa until mother nature allows, which we expect to be at least a week. There is a reasonable snow cover on the upper mountain but we are still waiting for further snowfall and a period of colder temperatures before any trails are able to be opened. Everything is ready and waiting and our hard working snowmakers are on standby. We had some fantastic pre season snow falls in May and we are optimistic that these weather systems will return. Turoa will open for sightseeing this Ohakune Mardi Gras weekend with the Movenpick Chairlift and the Alpine Cafe”.
