Hi islanders... Something pretty upsetting happened today... I was at Hidden Cove dock with my 3 kids (12, 8, 5) and another mom with her kids, and when the sun got to be a bit much the other mom and I retreated to the stairs to watch the kids from the shade. A group of 6 or so teenage girls then went down to the dock and were sunbathing when we saw one of the girls, who looked Asian and has blue hair, get up and push my 8 year old son off the dock, in to the water. She turned quickly back to her friends and kept her back to him, and all the girls laughed. She never looked back to see if he could swim or if he was hurt. I was so stunned. He can swim and he did get out without injury, but she never looked to see. If she had chosen my other son who cant swim who knows what could have happened by the time I got there. Anyway, It took me a second to believe what just happened, but then I went down there and asked her if she just pushed my son in to the water, and she cheerfully said yes, and cheerfully explained it was a dare from her friends. I asked if she realized that he was a little boy, 8 years old, that she could have hurt him, and she cheerfully apologized. But really didnt seem concerned. I cant even articulate how hideous this is to me, that an older girl would throw an innocent little boy, who was completely minding his own business, off of a dock, and think it was funny. I read recently about teens pushing old people at Safeway, what is going on with these kids?? And if anyone knows this blue-haired girl and wants to let parents know what she does for fun, or wants to pm me with their familys contact info, I think it could only help. I would definitely want to know if my child ever behaved like this. Thanks for reading, sorry so long.
