Hi ladies and gents. I have a few questions to ask of you all. Yesterday, I went over to a local leisure centre where I have been offered the opertunity of teaching once I have completed my spinning instructor training at the end of September. Without trying to sound like Im getting a bit too big for my boots here. I left the class feeling so deflated by what had just happened over the last 45mins. The way the class was delivered, the feel of the ride, pretty much everything I personally disagreed with for the whole ride. Outline of the class: 3mins at 130rpm for a warm up. Then we sat at 115rpm to simulate a flat Road. We did some standing climbing at 100rpm then all of a sudden dropped to 28rpm?! Sprints at 130+ rpm. I chose to sit at the back of the class to get a view of the class and instructor. The ride was over for most riders after 13 mins because they were dead in the saddle due to exhaustion. I know Ive not done my instructor training yet, so please, I dont want to come across like Im saying this class was wrong, but Ive been spinning for a while now and never been in a class like this. Ive also cycled competitively for nearly 9 years and I just found the whole thing unrealistic. At the end of the class, the instructor was the first person to leave the room. The class felt deflated. I have been offered the chance of teaching there, but I know already that my teaching style would be 110% different to this. I feel its very important to just keep it real and ride the bike. I feel a bit out off by attending this class and having that kind of experience. What would your advice be? Take the offer of teach and teach in a completely different style? Or pass up on the offer and wait for somewhere else? Thank you all :)
