Hi, my name is Josh. How may I help you today?” is how my day goes. But lately, I have noticed that some of my associates have not been feeling the same way. And I think it’s due to the lack of employment for night zoners at the Kilgore, TX Wal-Mart. By being understaffed at night when the store needs to be zoned before stocking, it causes the associates to have to zone multiple departments each for no higher pay or benefits, before they go home. This usually ends with an associate clocking out and leaving work, unfinished or for other workers. And it causes extreme hostility among the associates and managers. I personally enjoyed my job until I was switched over to night zoning. Then, it all fell apart due to my college class times, and me not seeing how the store could only have one associate on the general merchandise side, and having no one but cashiers and managers to check out and help customers. Also, when there is other zoning to be done in other departments, but it’s your time to get off, it suddenly becomes your problem since you are already finished. And no matter how you try to work it out to where you still leave on time, it doesn’t fit; and the next day, an incorrect account of the talk with the managers is written up to make it look like you did the wrong thing. Another thing is, having a 30-minute long meeting about not finishing 5 minutes before we get off is just not right (then getting mad and treating us when we leave). Sometimes I feel like we are there to wait on the bad associates or the bad managers, not the customers. By not helping them so we can go deal with the problems the managers have with us (doing or not doing what they 'ask'), it causes the customers to dislike the Wal-Mart brand, therefore making less people shop there and losing more stockholders’ money in the company as a whole. Therefore, if any changes are not made at this store and others, Wal-Mart will continue to lose customers and associates due to the attitude the associates have after a meeting. Also, having your register code disabled and not telling the associate why it was done is unlawful and is the highest insult you can give anyone. And because of that, you feel extra demoted to only be called for help the untrained in associates in the department. And my last thing is managers should not let some associate engage in conversations and hound the others to finish their work quickly so they can go help the taking group with theirs. I think in order to save time, Wal-Mart should have at least 1 or 2 people at night in every department so the attitude at that time can loosen up and the associate can finish their job peacefully.
