Hi pals! Writing this from the Chopin airport in Warsaw. Im 1/2 way into an 8 hr layover. For those of you following my current adventure (touring Lust & Marriage in Europe) perhaps you are curious about what happened in Amsterdam. I finally met up with my dear friend Antonie on Friday (we went to grad school together and he is one of my favorite people in the world - and a big part of why I wanted to take this trip). He agreed to run my sound for the show Saturday night, and so Saturday morning we were trying to figure out if we needed any extra cables or anything for the sound system. He is an actor in Amsterdam, and turned out he happened to know the person who ran the space where the show was going to be, and so we called him. The guy said since he hadnt had the reservation confirmed, he wasnt going to be there. He assumed we were no longer interested in renting the venue. This was a bit of a shock, as you might imagine. But seeing as the venue was outside the city proper, and there hadnt been any publicity, I was pretty sure the audience would be minimal anyway. So, we made LEMONADE baby! Antonie and Samantha (his delightful girlfriend) convinced me to go to the gym, which turned out to be the most amazing spa I have ever been to. Oh you guys, I wish I had pictures. It was MAGNIFICENT! There was a huge indoor/outdoor pool, and hot tubs and saunas of all different kinds.I mean, this was a COMPLEX of hedonism. We got to be in one of the saunas where a guy comes in and does this kind of towel ritual that heats the space insanely high - but feels incredible when its over. (and they have little cups of orange juice when you get out, to replace electrolites or something). We soaked in a wooden hot tub out in the open air and caught up on all the news of our lives. Twas truly glorious. Then we met up with Gabriella and her beautiful daughter Nianna (who lives in Amsterdam part time) and a few other friends. They insisted I do an excerpt of Lust & Marriage in the living room, so I did, and it was lovely. Not quite the Amsterdam premier of my dreams, but sweet nonetheless. I have a feeling Ill be back someday. And now Im waiting to hop a flight to Budapest - the jewel in the crown of an incredible trip. I get to see my brother and his wife and my nephews - and for that I am so grateful. I find myself homesick and am looking forward to sleeping in my own bed, but the chance to be with family for a few days is a balm to my soul.
