Hiatus Kunles feet were beginning to go numb as he snail-walked - TopicsExpress

Hiatus Kunles feet were beginning to go numb as he snail-walked across the road leading to the schoolgate. His legs were weak not because hed outgrown his worn-out shoes. It was hunger. Kunle, hurry up Obi said, as he meekly opened the gate. Kunle could hardly hear him. He couldnt derive the words to reply Obi, he allowed his mouth to hang open while he sluggishly dragged his leaden limbs. Everything felt so heavy for him, the uniform he put on, the leather bag swinging across his right shoulder and the jug of water hed emptied earlier in the morning. Was it the water parading in his deserted tummy that made him dizzy? He really felt like vomiting. Vomiting! He couldnt afford to Vomit under his hunger-beloved tummy. No he serenely said to himself. vomiting was for those bellies that absorb food three times daily or more. Vomiting was for the Ajebotas his famished mind consoled him, it was a law now. Vomiting was for the wealthy folks. He couldnt understand why everything came to a fatal change. A year ago, he could never imagine a thing like this would happen to his average family... No, once average family. He corrected himself. His younger brother had dropped-out from school. All for his sake! His father had told him. WAEC was lurking by. Thoughts were pouring in his mind, he could hardly see the schoolgate again. Was he blanking out? Or dying... The thought of death was a comfort to his mind, he could see the scythe of death gathering his soul bit by bit. It was dark. It was 7:47a.m that thursday, when Kunle A. Aliu jnr fainted.
