Hidden scrolls, broken pottery, unsolved mysteries, and ancient Jewish history were all the talk at a lecture on The Dead Sea Scrolls yesterday, given by world renowned scholar, Prof. Lawrence Schiffman of New York University. The talk was part of the curriculum of Ms. Sara Tesler’s “Rock and Scroll” twelfth grade elective, and was also attended by Dr. Tammy Jacobowitz’s Tanakh class. Prof. Schiffman’s presentation included pictures from the excavation at Qumram and images of the scrolls discovered. He discussed the relevance of the texts for biblical scholarship as well as the window they offer us into the world of the Second Temple period. The students are excited to continue exploring these areas in class and are grateful to Prof. Schiffman for bringing these topics to life with his first hand experience and knowledge. #SARHS
