High-End Vehicle Scam Online We are warning the public about an online fraud involving high-end vehicles that has happened online. Twice in the past month, two people in Calgary purchased vehicles from a company called Maynard Motors, from the website maynardmotorsmidvale. This company claims to be located in Midvale, Utah, United States, which is the same location as a legitimate dealership that goes by the name Midvale Motors. Upon purchase of the high-end vehicle, buyers are required to wire transfer half the cost of the vehicle before they will be shipped. A short time later, the buyer is then informed there are problems with customs at the border and they must pay the remaining balance before customs will release the vehicle as otherwise there would be a lien on it. Once the victim sends the final payment, they no longer hear from the company, or are able to reach them through any of the previous contact information. In both cases the victims were speaking with a man who claimed his name was Alvin Mendoza. Investigators believe this to be a false name and caution the public to avoid making a deal with anyone from Maynard Motors, even if they go by a different name. Combined, the two recent Calgary victims have lost over $130,000. The investigation continues and detectives are working with the authorities in the United States to trace the origins of the company. We are warning the public to avoid purchasing vehicles from Maynard Motors, through the website maynardmotorsmidvale. Anyone who has information about these frauds is asked to call police at 403-266-1234, or Crime Stoppers anonymously using any of the following methods: TALK:1-800-222-8477 TYPE:tttTIPS TEXT: tttTIPS to 274637
