High Fitzsimmons, a rancher in Dimmit County, keeps a shotgun by his side. It gives him comfort because law enforcement is an hour away, plus hes had frightening run-ins with immigrants in the past. Living where I do has put me in close proximity to our state’s border woes, he writes. Immigrants from Mexico and Central America are an everyday sight down here.
