High Five Sometimes the reaction of kids that come in to our store, grab at my heart. Sometimes they say things that stick with me, and validates what we do to help kids. It can often be just the thing that spurs you on. Here is one such story from last night. A family came in with 5 kids all in the teen range. They each studied our school supplies, and picked out the right stuff for them. Then they headed back to the clothing area and picked out clothing. They found things that would help them present themselves at school with confidence. One of the girls was playfully wrapping a scarf around her neck and slinging part of it to one side like a glamour queen. She and I enjoyed a hearty laugh. The boys all had large feet. Unknown to them, a lady had just donated a large bags of shoes in the 11-13 size range. I heard WOW! several times when I passed by as they devoured these shoes, and found just the right ones. Normally, we just dont have those sizes. God provided! Next, we headed to the hygiene items, and somewhere in the middle of that, my moment happened. One of the girls, standing directly across the counter from me, caught my eye. She was about to cry, and was fighting it. What do I do? I didnt want her to cry, so time for action, right? So I blurted out, Whats up? Likely not what is in the training manual Ive never read. She told me that she was about to cry because this was such an unsuspected treat. This is so nice! she said with tears barely behind the dam in her eyes. This is just so nice! Now, my eyes were starting to fill up! I didnt want to start crying, so I said, Lets just have a big ol high five of emotion. Also not in any manual I suppose, but thats what we did! KERSMACK! went our hands as we expressed our emotions that way. It seemed to work, as we both had a satisfied look in our eyes, and big smiles. I bet we both laughed, but I dont remember. One last treat was headed her way. Little Caesars Pizza for the whole family, just because Little Caesars cares about them too! Some families, you hate to see leave. I hated to see them leave. We got to make a difference! We got to prove to a young lady and her family that we care, and not just us, but all those people who keep us in supplies and blessings. All those people that pray for us and them! Even a God that made sure the right shoes came in for the boys, and provided a scarf for a playful moment! And a couple of Pizzas! Was a high five a good call? You bet it was!
