Higher Arkansas Parasite Risk This December 02 December 2014 US - A parasite warning has been issued to farmers after near perfect conditions over recent months. December is a time for deworming in Arkansas after an “ideal” summer and fall/parasites for parasites, cattlemen are hearing. Most locations had such conditions, meaning cattle are carrying higher numbers than normal, warn University of Arkansas division of agriculture extension. Spring calving herds need deworming prior to calving while autumn calvers require extra feed if the month turns cold and wet. “Winter weather can bring an increase in TDN and dry matter intake. Additional hay and supplement maybe necessary to maintain proper body condition and performance,” the extension advised.
