Higher Diploma (Bridge to MAIS) In March 2010, the Islamic Online University began offering the world’s first completely tuition-free BA in Islamic Studies and by 2012 over 4,000 students were enrolled and admitted into the program from a total of over 20,000 applicants from all around the world. From its inception, the IOU planned to offer an MA in Islamic Studies for its first batch of BAIS graduates in 2014 and a PhD in Islamic Studies for its MAIS graduates in 2016. For BA or BSc students from other disciplines who would prefer to join the MAIS rather than do an undergraduate degree in Islamic Studies (BAIS),the IOU offers a 1 and a half year (three semesters) Higher Diploma course which will act as a prerequisite bridge certificate for joining the MAIS. This option is offered by some renowned Islamic Universities like Omdurman Islamic University in the Sudan because most Masters level Islamic Studies courses require previous knowledge from BAIS level courses. IOU’s bridge diploma program is comprised of 16 core courses from the BAIS.. The minimum academic qualification to join the IOU Higher Diploma program is a Bachelors Degree in any field. Even students who already have a Bachelors Degree in Islamic Studies from other institutions may join the IOU Higher Diploma Program to revise their previous studies and familiarize themselves with the IOU system of online study, before joining the MAIS.
