Higher Education introduces Pay It Forward: Career Mentoring Program The Sault Tribe Higher Education Department recently developed the Pay It Forward: Career Mentoring Program to provide professional career education for members of our tribe through career oriented guidance, experiences, knowledge and networks provided by our members. The program requires all participants to be 18 or older prior to applying and is intended for mentees, currently enrolled college students, to be paired with college graduates or upperclassmen and post-graduate level college students who have experience with mentee colleges, majors or career focuses. The primary goal of the program is to assist students with the college process and their future careers. We currently seek mentors who are dependable, positive, proactive and fair in promoting mentee growth. They should be able to use their experiences, knowledge and professional contacts to educate and guide mentees. Mentors shall serve as links to assist mentees in obtaining educational and advancement objectives. It is important to find a balance between guidance and micromanaging. Mentors would be college graduates or current upperclassmen and post-graduate level college students. We also seek mentees willing to set articulate, attainable and manageable goals and objectives. Mentees should seek educational guidance to successfully achieve their set goals and objectives. It is important for mentees to properly use both mentor and program. Mentees should be courteous and appreciative of the time and effort provided by mentors. Mentees would be students currently enrolled in college. To apply, submit appropriate application, a signed copy of the policy and procedures, a signed copy of the do/do not list, complete YouTube training video and written test. Successful mentee applicants will be paired with mentors based upon their colleges, majors and career interests. The recommended commitment to the program for mentors and mentees is six months. Program participants are encouraged to continue participation in the program beyond six months. If a mentor or mentee needs to withdraw from the program, Sault Tribe Higher Education will try to find a replacement as soon as possible. Interested students may print an application from saulttribe and visit membership services, Education and Higher Education for the college level student information. The download section is off to the left.
