Higher Prices From Builders Home builders across North America are setting higher asking prices of their new homes on average, according to the latest survey conducted by John Burns Real Estate Consulting Inc. 24% of all respondents in the monthly survey of home builders raised their prices in December 2013, compared to 19% in November. In the meantime, double-digit percentage increases from 2012 numbers were reported in the Californian market. In early 2013, more than half of respondents of the John Burns Real Estate Consulting survey said they had increased their prices. During the first 11 months of 2013 the average new-home price exceeded $300,000. Recently, the average price has gone from $310,800 in August to $340,300 in November — an all-time high. Michael Gapen, senior U.S. economist at Barclays, expects home prices to increase by 7% to 8% this year on top of last year’s gains of 11% to 12%. Los Angeles Real Estate - Ricarda Ankenbrand
