Highlights from the Report of the Royal Commission on Aboriginal Peoples Aboriginal people have made it clear, in words and deeds, that they will no longer sit quietly by, waiting for their grievances to be heard and their rights restored. Despite their long history of peacefulness, some leaders fear that violence is in the wind. What Aboriginal people need is straightforward, if not simple: control over their lives in place of the well-meaning but ruinous paternalism of past Canadian governmentslands, resources and self-chosen governments with which to reconstruct social, economic and political ordertime, space and respect from Canada to heal their spirits and revitalize their cultures We are getting sick and tired of the promises of the federal government. We are getting sick and tired of Commissions. We are getting sick and tired of being analyzed... We want to see action.
