Highlights of Good Morning Sierra Leone Program on Radio Democracy F.M. 98.1-Wednesday 12th March, 2014 Station reporter on the agreement ratified by Parliament between the Korean Export Import Bank and the Freetown City Council for the construction of a new administrative building • Parliament on 11th March 2014 ratified the $60 million agreement between the Korean Export Import Bank and the Freetown City Council • The Minister of State Finance, Momodu Kargbo, who tabled the agreement in Parliament, said the 15-storey building complex will include a car park for 200 vehicles, a theatre and assembly hall and that it will dominate the skyline of the city • He added that the concessional loan is to be repaid in 40 years with a grace period of 15 years at 2.1% service charge • It will take 3 years to construct the building • Government contribution will be in kind and will amount to over $8 million in duty waiver • MPs described the agreement as good, that the loan is almost a gift but cautioned the Ministry of Finance to properly monitor the duty waiver to ensure that it is not abused • That the interest rate on the loan is the lowest ever to be approved by the current Parliament Sierra Leone’s Deputy Ambassador to Ethiopia, Ishmael Koroma on his appointment • Worked in the most successful peacekeeping mission in the world for 5 years-this has put him in a strong position to work as a diplomat • Worked in UNIPSIL’s Public Information Section • Will tell the correct story about SL to the international community–especially the values of the country, will market the country and what the world will learn from SL • Will cover the African Union and the Economic Commission for Africa including Mozambique and Malawi • Will ensure that SL takes its rightful place in the world stage • The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has organised a seminar for all newly-appointed diplomats • The University of Sierra Leone does not want to release him-a lot of changes are now taking place at the university • Will depart the country anytime from now • Will not let youths down
