Highlights on Special Sessions: ** Commutative Algebra and Algebraic Geometry ** - What kind of public is your special session directed to? Researchers. The value and impact of the session has an intangible aspect which comes from the interactions between the participants. It will provide an opportunity for like-minded researchers from all over the region to come together and to benefit from each other’s expertise - What is the scope of your special session? The proposed session fits the areas of algebraic geometry and commutative algebra. The two areas keep a very close relationship since their inception. However, except for some papers and excerpts dealing with the historic roots of their common roots and problems, little has been said about the increasingly stronger ties between them. These ties seem to exponentially grow while mathematical sophistication takes pace. An overall objective of this session is to bringing up new facets of the intertwining between algebraic geometry and commutative algebra and showing a portion of the present state-of-the-art. - Could you give us a few words about the organizers? It contemplates not only established areas of research in Algebraic Geometry and Commutative Algebra, but also promising new directions, and intersections with other areas of mathematics. The list includes senior leading experts as well as young talents, and covers several different countries in the Americas.
