Hijinks on the High Seas - A Saga in 5 Parts Chapter 2: Heave-Ho SATURDAY 1st MARCH STOP PULAU PERHENTIAN STOP The fiasco begins… Our brief respite on the promontory house is broken by a series of frantic phone calls from The Captain’s son (appropriately named ‘Fery’…). The lorry from Kampar has not been able to access the jetty. A smaller truck and 5 men from the village have to be hired to haul our cargo across to the jetty. We certainly should have twigged that there would be a problem: on our recce we noted that the access road had been literally built around a tree! Therefore the Lang Tengah cargo: - Bricks (2058 pieces) - Attap (200 strips) - Treasure chests (2) - Charpoy beds (2) - Cement (6 bags) - Saw dust (8 bags) Along with a set of rattan chairs and all our camp equipment were dumped on the jetty. Soon, it became apparent that we had yet another problem on our hands – the boat wasn’t going to be big enough…
